Joaquin Fernandez is a seasoned documentary filmmaker whose work spans much of the United States, and many other countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. Joaquin studied filmmaking at New York University, and he worked with several advertising agencies in Miami, before providing communications solutions for higher education, government, and non-profits. As founder of Great Commission Films, Joaquin has produced multiple documentaries, including, Truth & Lies in American Education, as well as IndoctriNation: Public Schools and the Decline of Christianity in America, which is how I first heard of him. His current projects include Hero in America: Dr. Kishore and the Epidemic of Greed, a documentary film exploring a groundbreaking approach to treating America’s drug crisis; and a screenplay for a narrative feature-length film, The Major, that follows four college friends as they confront the legacy of Civil War-era entrepreneur and Confederate Major James Lide Coker in their small college town of Hartsville, South Carolina, amidst America’s social tensions of 2020. Joaquin is also the producer of the latest versions of both GriefShare and DivorceCare, two video-based curricula used in tens of thousands of churches worldwide. He and his wife Monica live in the beautiful North Carolina foothills north of Charlotte.
